Race Results are in!

Until I find a better solution, I've pasted the results into a post. Click on each page to see them larger. If you missed getting your medal on race day, please contact me via email at mobile.jennig@gmail.com so I can get it to you. If I don't hear from you within a month, I'll donate the leftover medals to a kid's fun run.
For those whose medals didn't arrive, I'm re-ordering those and will contact you when they arrive. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Race Photos and Results

Thanks to all the HEROES who came out on Saturday! It was a great crowd and we had beautiful weather for a race! Because of all of you, we were able to raise more than $2,000 for the Marrow Foundation!! I feel good about that, and you should all be proud of yourselves for running for the cause. From the comments I'm receiving, it seems everyone had a good time and enjoyed the course. Remember for next year to break out the gloves for the Heroes run. You could really feel the shift in the seasons waiting for the start gun. Brrr! And was the soup good or what? It sure tasted yummy on a cool, fall morning.

Do we have some pictures for you! There were two photographers present for the First Annual Heroes Run. Kudos to Kathy Nelson for her fabulous race photos. There are also some wonderful pics and a race report over at Hardy Breed. Many thanks to both photographers. I love looking at race photos and seeing the event from a whole new perspective. You all look so happy for having just run five miles!!

The results will be posted soon, I promise. My scanner is pretty old and creaky, so you may have to squint to read them.

I have to give a special shout-out to all my incredible volunteers. Each and every one of you were vital to the success of this event. You are all SUPERHEROES in my eyes. I am forever grateful for all the coaching, mentoring, and resources that made this race possible. The Springfield running community is top notch. The village of Chatham was extremely gracious and welcomed the Heroes with open arms. Thank you, and see you next year!

This just in!!

    ABOUT OUR CAUSE

    The Samuel S. Boutchee Memorial Fund

    of the Marrow Foundation

    THE NEED – DONORS
    Each year, more than 30,000 people are diagnosed with leukemia and other life-threatening diseases that could be cured with a marrow or blood cell transplant. Yet, only 30% of those patients are able to find a matched donor within their families. The other 70% must turn to the National Marrow Donor Program Registry.

    Although more than 5 million potential donors are on the Registry, there is a desperate need for more donors of diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds. American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian, Black/African American, Hispanic/Latino, Native Hawaiian/Other Pacific Islander and multiple race patients face a greater challenge in finding a match than do White/Caucasian patients. Therefore, even with millions of donors available on the Registry, some patients with unique tissue types are unable to find a match.

    THE NEED – RESEARCH
    In addition to diverse donor recruitment, research is needed to improve patient outcomes. Research is being undertaken to examine and reduce the life-threatening complications that patients may face following a marrow transplant. To further this research, the Center for International Blood and Marrow Transplant Research was created to focus its resources in several areas, including:

    • Studies of the factors used to match patients with donors and how they affect the outcomes of cell transplant therapies;

    • Research on post-transplant complications in order to improve transplant outcomes;

    • Health services research on issues of access to treatment for medically underserved populations.

      The Samuel S. Boutchee Fund will be dedicated to recruiting more volunteers to the Registry in the hope that one day every person who needs a marrow transplant will be able to find a perfect match. The Fund will also support research to reduce the risks of post-transplant complications.

    Specifically, the Samuel S. Boutchee Fund will support:

    • Recruitment of new volunteer donors of ethnically diverse backgrounds to the National Marrow Donor Program Registry, and
    • Research towards the ultimate goal of removing barriers for patients who need a marrow or blood cell transplant.
